This site aims to show as many opportunities as possible for people of all ages to take part in sport and physical activity and therefore lists a wide variety of clubs and organisations. Their inclusion on this web-site is not an indication that they have been vetted and approved by the London Borough of Havering or Havering PCT. Individuals should make their own enquiries about the organisations to satisfy themselves. In the case of activities for children please read, 'Important information for parents or carers', and check on this link to find out more.

Important information for parents or carers
When looking at sports activities for your children there are a number of things you should ask about and things you should look for in relation to their safety. This includes the commitment of the club to good practice and child protection. A good club will welcome questions about their activities and the safety of their environment.

We would strongly advise that you look into the following:

Child Protection Policy
Does the club have a Child protection policy? Ideally there should also be a club welfare officer who will answer any questions you might have.

Criminal Record Bureau Check(CRB)
Does the club undertake enhanced CRB checks on helpers and coaches?

Training and education
Have all coaches and volunteers received appropriate training to work with children (e.g. Child Protection training)? Do coaches hold appropriate National Governing Body qualifications? Is the coach that will be working with your child qualified?

Promoting your child’s welfare
How does the club safeguard and promote the welfare of children? For example, do they take a register at the beginning and end of each session? Are children signed in and out? What provision is there for first aid? What is the ratio of children to coach/instructor?

Club accreditation
Does the club have an accreditation award such as Clubmark or the National Governing Body equivalent? This confirms that the club adheres to Nationally recognised standards.
