Calling all Havering Community Clubs and Young Sports People!!

Have fun, get active and represent your community this Summer with StreetGames’ Olympic Challenge!

Over 6 weeks, we’re inviting community sports clubs and the young people who support them to test their mettle with a series of 30 fun daily challenges. From Boxing to Badminton, Tennis to Triathlons, there are activities to suit everyone. So choose your challenge and show the world what you can do.

Lockdown may mean we can’t watch the Olympics this year, but we can still come together and celebrate the power of sport.

If your organisation is up to the challenge, you can enter at any point over the 6 weeks! If you require further information or the Zoom meeting code please contact Samantha Barton at This email address is being protected from spambots. How to Get Involved!

  • Each day we will share the 'Daily Challenge Video' on our social media pages - @Haveringactive @Youthsportlbh
  • Each day there will be a different scoring criteria ensuring that it is accessible and competitive for all - this will be posted with the Challenge Video.
  • For those with a disability please use the age restrictions as a guidance and select the most appropriate one for that individual.

Every day there will be a live Zoom session at 3pm (please contact us for the link) where your chosen challenger will go on live to compete for your organisation. Alternatively you can send your video and your score through via WhatsApp to 07378 189 266 and this will get added to the overall total/leader board.

Dear Participant/Partner,

Following advice from central government, Havering Active are suspending all sports training, leagues, festivals and events until further notice.

We will assess this on an ongoing basis and review the service in due course but for now, all trials, training, weekly, holiday and funded sessions will stop. We will keep everyone updated on when the sessions will restart, and any changes to this stance will be updated via emails, social media and our website.

If you are able to continue with some sort of physical activity, and as long as it is in line with government guidelines around isolation and at risk groups, we would recommend you do so. This may be a brisk walk near your home or a home workout. There are many readily available online resources for a quick and easy to follow workout in the comfort of your own home. For government guidance on COVID-19 and staying at home please visit: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection.

February Half Term 2020 was in full swing regardless of the high winds. We saw over 270 children and young people taking part in a variety of sport sessions all across the borough.

Parkour / Free Running with Above Parkour delivered a fun indoor session inviting new comers to attend their weekly run sessions in the borough. This week they are now back outside at Harrow Lodge Park Parkour alongside their indoor sessions.

Athletics was another huge hit where coaches helped develop the skills in throwing, jumping sprint and hurdles. It was great to see lots of future Olympians taking part and enjoying themselves.

Netball at Frances Bardsley was a smash with many working on their skills, drills, attack and defence as well as taking part in awesome game play to finish the day.

The West Ham Football Camp was as popular as ever with sessions booking to capacity very quickly. The weather held out for the morning, however the winds took over in the afternoon causing it to be cancelled. Don't forget WHUFC deliver a FREE weekly Monday KICKS session and Disability Football session on Thursdays at Brittons Academy.

Table Tennis Tournament at My Place was a massive hit with 22 young youths participating and enjoying the fun tournament with coach Colin.

RDF Sports delivered #MAKEITHAPPEN Basketball at Brittons Academy giving our young basketballers in the borough the opportunity to shoot some hoops and develop their skills.

Our new Mini Snooker and Pool Tournament at MyPlace was a hit with some fantastic skills being shown and taught.

Over in Para Sport, we held Multi-Sport sessions with Bradely from Essex Cricket, Peter and Jordan from the Havering Tennis Club and Havering Arts at the YMCA, Swimming at Sapphire in Romford and Movement to Music session at Hornchurch Sports Centre. It was great to see some new faces as well as regulars in attendance at each of these.

A big THANK YOU goes out to all our coaching staff, partners and facilities for working extremely hard and doing such a great job teaming up with us to produce a fun-filled portfolio of sport and exercise during this week.

We can confirm that regular weekly sessions are now back up and running after a short break so we hope to see you at one (or more) of those.

We are now planning our Easter Programme and working on even more action-packed activities for the community. Be sure to check the School Holiday Activities tab on this website for schedules and booking links as well as the Children and Young People tab for our weekly sessions in the borough.

Be first to hear of our activities by following us on Facebook and Twitter @haveringactive

A Summer Summary

The last five weeks saw over 1000 children and young people taking part in a variety of sport activity located across Havering. From Rainham to Noak Hill and back again, it has certainly been an action packed summer for all.

Our Youth programme designed for those aged 11+ included the usual favourites; Parkour and West Ham Football camps, which were popular and very well attended. The Essex Spartans Academy also facilitated an American Football Day Camp which drew a group of 26 enthusiastic attendees.

Furthermore, this year we were successful with a bid for the ‘Summer Sport Activities Fund’ as part of the Mayor of London’s ‘Younger Londoners Fund’. This aims at delivering sport-specific projects for those aged 11 – 25 at risk of crime within the borough. This has meant we’ve been able to deliver the likes of Boxing, a full Street Sports programme and Street Wheelz: a cycle maintenance and route planning course. We have to thank the Groundwork Organisation for their consideration on our application and everyone that was involved in making outcomes positive.

Activities for 5 – 11 year olds featured 20 Athletics sessions at Hornchurch Stadium, Netball, Tennis, Golf, Rugby and more West Ham Football camps. We also put on an array of Family Fun days in a range of local parks, attended the Romford Summer Marketplace Event and the Havering Show as part of the official Sports Zone in partnership with Everyone Active. Attendances were high across the board and we were pleased to see our regulars as well as some fresh faces coming along to take part.

Over in the Para Active sector, we delivered Multi-Sport events at the YMCA, Athletics and Swimming at Romford’s Sapphire Ice & Leisure. Our participation figures have doubled from 2018’s summer which is extremely encouraging. Due to the numbers at Athletics we have now managed re-boot the weekly club that runs on Friday afternoon at Bridge Avenue, Hornchurch.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of our coaching staff, collaborative partners and local facilities for working alongside us to produce such a fantastic portfolio for five whole weeks.

Looking ahead, regular weekly sessions will be back up and running as of 9th September. We hope to see you at one (or more) of those in the near future. Please check our social media pages and Havering Active website for updates and notifications. Finally, be sure to visit the School Holiday Activities tab on the Havering Active website later this month for October Half Term bookings which is currently under construction.
